Starting Over — A New Day!
My dear friend, Jeff Jenkins, shared some wonderful thoughts about starting over and making changes in our lives. It seemed to be a P.S. to my post about making resolutions (https://grandma-d.com/5-new-resolutions-to-change-your-life/), so I asked him if I could share it with you. This is good news! Here are his words:
In our world, we place a lot of emphasis on the beginning of a New Year. We talk about resolutions, goals, plans, and dreams. We talk about starting all over again, and my, have we ever wanted that more than we do for 2021?
Can I share some even better news with you? The Bible talks about a different time to start over, another time to begin again (not just on January 1st). God’s wonderful Word tells us that we can have a fresh start at the beginning of every day! Every new day is God’s invitation to begin again. A second chance to obey His Word. Another time to repent of a wrong. Another opportunity to repair a marriage or restore a broken relationship. A second chance to live a better life. A second chance to tell someone about Jesus. Another opportunity to show someone we love them. A second opportunity to help someone who is hurting.
Nothing is wrong with considering how we can have a better year, but please don’t forget that we are blessed with opportunities from our Father every day we live. How blessed we are to serve the God of second chances. Praise God! His mercies are new every morning!
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Thank You, Dear Father, for each new day of life. Thank You for allowing us the chance to begin again every day. Help us not to waste the opportunities You grant us each day.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
