Little Was Given and Miracles Happened
Jesus was a miracle worker. Not only did he heal multitudes, but he also did some pretty astonishing things. He would give what no one expected — turning water into the best-tasting wine, turning a small boy’s basket lunch into a feast for thousands, and turning a group of weary fishermen’s bad luck into a bursting net of fish.
He Gives More Than Enough!
I love those stories because he didn’t just give people “enough,” he gave them to overflowing, beyond what they could imagine. They gave so little, and he turned their offering into abundance! He could have “magically” made the wine appear, or filled baskets with food, or caused fish to land on the shore. But instead he used the little that was given in faith and created miracles. And look at how many lives were changed!
But I Have So Little to Give!
That gives me hope. Sometimes I don’t feel I have much to give to the Lord. I am not someone who stands out in a crowd (in fact, I’m short, so I don’t stand out anywhere!). I don’t have a lot of money to give to others in need. I’m not a famous “influencer” with thousands of followers. And when I look around, I can easily find other sisters who are smarter and more talented than I am. I find myself questioning if I can ever “measure up” to what I think he wants me to be. Thankfully, that is not what he wants anyway! In 2 Corinthians 12:9 it says, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Yes, he uses our weaknesses and what little we have to give to show his power. He knows I have a heart for those who are hurting. I truly try to become more like him every day. Can he use me? Yep. Can he use you? You bet! Just come to him with open hands and a willing heart. It sure seems like a miracle — Christ using little ole me to make his power known? Wow!
So what will he do with my simple offering? How will he use my little gift? What miracle will he do in someone’s life? Nothing is too small for him to work with. I just need to open my hands and my heart and offer them to him. When We Give Him Our Hearts, He Can Do Mighty Things
When we give him our hearts, we need to stand back and watch how he turns our little gift into something mighty and powerful. It’s not anything we can ever do on our own; it’s him working through us to work his miracles and change the world. Honestly, it might be a little scary to give up our wills to submit to his will. There are many unknowns that require our trust. It’s that “dying to self” stuff that might need an extra measure of faith. But I do know that the blessings we receive will be as amazing as what happens to the lives we touch.
Maybe, just maybe, his greatest miracle will be what happens to our hearts as he uses us. What do you think?
Prayer:
Father, I give you my heart. What will you do with it? Use me as you will. Turn my gift into a mighty blessing that draws others to you. Help me to get out of your way so others will want to know you, too. In Jesus’ mighty name, AMEN.
