He Knows The Past — Even the Ugly Parts!

He knows your past. That thought terrified me when I first realized that He knows every single part of my past. That includes all the things I did when I thought no one was looking, all the lies I told, all the promises I broke, and all the sins I committed over and over again. Wow! That’s a pretty depressing thought.

Note: Now if you haven’t read Part 1 of this series, I encourage you to go back and read it first. Here’s the link: https://grandma-d.com/he-knows-everything/

Here’s the amazing part about Him knowing our past – He doesn’t care! He knows all our mistakes and screw-ups and forgives every single one of them. And what is really unimaginable to me is that He doesn’t just forgive them, but He forgets every one of them as well. The slate is wiped clean. But Lord, there was that time I did that really horrible thing that keeps haunting me over and over again. I know You can’t really forgive that because it was ugly and unforgiveable. His response? “What horrible thing? I forgot about that ages ago. I sure wish you would!”

He Knows Everything and Still Forgives!

That’s the wonderful part of being His child. Because His son, Jesus, died for our sins, we have the gift of eternal life, but we also have the gift of our sins being forgiven. In fact, in Lamentations 3:22-23 it says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. They are NEW EVERY MORNING! Great is thy faithfulness” (emphasis mine).

That means the slate is wiped clean, and we get to start over without the list of our sins getting longer and longer every day. That also means we can focus on Him and what He wants for our lives. He wants us to share this good news with others who are living in the past, drowning in the guilt of sin, and missing out on His rich blessings. What joy there is to live forgiven and free!

Living in the Past Robs Us of Today’s Joys!

If you haven’t made Jesus the Lord of your life, you are missing out! What are you waiting for? Put the past behind you. Have your sins forgiven. Stop living your life on your own strength because it doesn’t work very well.

Yes, dear one, He knows your past. He knows that it is just that – the past. You can’t live in the past. It can haunt you and make you feel unlovable. When you do, you can’t enjoy the life He has for you right now. Your life can be filled with joy as a forgiven child of the King or you can be miserable and feel worthless. The choice sounds easy to me. How about you? The saying goes, “today is a gift from God. That’s why it’s called “the present.”

Let’s pray:

Dear Father, there are so many things in our pasts that we regret. We are so grateful that You have forgiven and forgotten every one of them. We ask You to help us to focus on the good things in the present and put the past far behind us. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
